Fetishes and Carvings |
For over a thousand years the Southwestern Indian tribes have been making fetishes and carvings. The difference between fetishes and carvings is one of belief: fetishes are thought to be alive and be able to access power, while carvings tend to more decorative purposes. Fetishes are used for help in hunting, diagnosing and treating disease, games of skill and chance, war, fertility, and warding against the supernatural.

We have a large variety of Fetishes & Carvings done by Zuni, Isleta and Navajo carvers. |
In the Indian culture, a fetish may belong to an entire tribe, a clan, a society, or an individual. The Navajo and the Zuni have always made their own fetishes and carvings, but all the Southwestern tribes barter for their own use.
The most common fetish is the hunting fetish, which is used to bring luck in the hunt. Hunting fetishes are likenesses of predatory animals, and they usually have 'prayer bundles' tied to their backs or sides. These bundles often contain stones, arrow heads, beads, feathers, sinew, twigs, or fur.
Our fetishes and carvings have been hand picked to ensure that we offer the best available. Most of our fetishes are one of a kind and as such cannot be cataloged successfully. Please contact us and let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to supply you with a selection that will accommodate your needs.
